KCESCAPADES
Hi, my name is Gabe Reyes.
I’m a Kansas City photographer and drone operator, and most of what I photograph comes back to one thing: my connection to this city.
My family has roots in the Kansas City area going back four generations, with ties to Jackson County, Northeast Kansas City, Sheffield, to the East Bottoms. Learning more about that history has made me see the city less as just where I live and more as a place I’m connected to across generations.
Cycling through Kansas City also changed the way I saw it. Moving through the city at a slower pace made me notice the details you miss from a car — old buildings, side streets, bridges, neighborhoods, and little pieces of history hiding in plain sight.
That perspective carries into my photography. I’m drawn to both the Kansas City everyone knows and the places people often pass by without really noticing.
That is what KCESCAPADES is about for me: exploring Kansas City, seeing familiar places from a different perspective, and preserving a little of what this city feels like right now.
I’m not just trying to photograph what Kansas City looks like. I’m trying to hold onto a little of what it feels like.
